Engagement 40Diamonds form under nearly unimaginable circumstances. They take shape in the deepest parts of the Earth’s core, far underneath massive continental plates. There, stone turns to magma which boils at over 2,370-degrees Fahrenheit. Carbon containing minerals are cooked, melted and crushed under pressure applied by the weight of the entire planet. Billions of years pass. 1.1-3.3 billion to be precise. Eventually, diamonds form. They are beautiful, one-of-a-kind stones which are stronger and harder than any other material on earth. Even after all of that, diamonds need your help if they are to shine as brilliantly and radiantly as possible. Stewart Kuper Jewelers explains how to keep your diamonds radiant.

  1. Handle As Infrequently As Possible

The natural oils from your fingers and hands love to adhere to the surface of a diamond. This will have a negative impact on its fire and brilliance. This grease will also make it easier for dirt and grime to get on the diamond. Minimize this effect by handling your diamond as infrequently as possible. You can also choose to wear gloves if handling is unavoidable.

  1. Clean Regularly

Cleaning your diamond is as simple as soaking it with water and a gentle degreaser, like a mild dish soap. Once the diamond is wet and soapy, you can use a soft bristled toothbrush to scrub away any dirt that remains. Use this toothbrush only for cleaning jewelry to keep it from becoming overly dirty.

  1. Super Clean With An Ultrasonic Cleaner

Diamonds which have sat in storage can become crusted with dirt and grime. In this case, normal cleaning methods are not going to cut it. This is an opportunity to bring your diamond in and have it cleaned with an ultrasonic cleaner. These amazing devices use vibrating liquid to gently wash away any accumulated dirt and grime. When your diamond comes out, it will be sparkling like new.
